While environmental sustainability and social justice are increasingly intertwined in European growth strategies and global development frameworks, in reality, social justice concerns are not yet well-integrated into urban sustainability efforts. Justice, with respect to urban sustainability, entails acknowledging the exclusion of certain groups from the benefits of sustainability initiatives, identifying barriers against their participation and addressing challenges regarding ignorance of their specific needs and preferences. Our Partner ICLEI Europe will recognise, support and broker the knowledge and experiences of those who are acting locally to create sustainable and just cities.
