Details of the call for applications


The funding program „Building Power for Economic Justice“  prioritizes work led by people with lived experiences of economic inequality. The program has three focus areas: care, technology, and wealth. We aim to fund organizations’ ongoing work and learning, prioritizing organizational development rather than specific projects. We offer multi-year support to encourage organizations’ long-term sustainability.

The organizations we look for

  • Have an annual budget between €100,000 and €3 million.
  • Are registered organizations with charitable aims related to economic justice.
  • Are based in East, South, South-East Asia / Europe, Central and North Asia/ Latin America and the Caribbean / Southwest Asia and North Africa  and Sub-Saharan Africa or operate at a global or regional level.
  • Do not currently receive funding from Robert Bosch Stiftung.
     

Applications can also come from

  • Coalitions or partnerships of two or more organizations. In these cases, not all partners need to be registered organizations. 
  • In coalition applications, we expect explicit mechanisms of power-sharing that ensure smaller and grassroots organizations have meaningful involvement in decision-making.
  • Intermediary organizations that enhance participation of the groups they work with. However, priority will be given to direct community empowerment.
     

The support we offer

  • Grants between €100.000 to €400.000 per applying organization or coalition. 
  • Grants spread over the duration of minimum two and maximum five years. 
  • Grants that can be used for organizations’ ongoing work and learning, organizational development and wellbeing. 
     

The application process

The application process for this funding program has two main stages:

  • Stage 1 (open application): The open call has expired. 
  • Stage 2 (shortlisted applicants only): We will invite shortlisted applicants to the second stage of the application process. This stage will involve completing a more detailed application form. Shortlisted organizations will receive support through the Stage 2 application process. 
  • Notification of shortlisted applicants: the week of January 20, 2025. Please note that the dates for notification of candidates for Stage 2 of the application process may change, if the number of applicants to this call is very high. In this case we will notify all applicants of changed dates as early as possible. 
  • The shortlisted candidates will have four weeks to work on their applications in February 2025. Applications for Stage 2 will need to be submitted at the end of February 2025. Please note that the main persons involved in the application must be available during this period.
  • A jury of experts on economic inequality including experts by experience reviews the Stage 2 applications and selects eight organizations. By April 2025 all organizations from Stage 2 will be informed about the decisions by the Jury.
