Foundations for Ukraine (F4U)

The full-scale invasion of Ukraine has placed immense strain on the country’s civil society, which plays a vital role in supporting communities, building social cohesion, and fostering resilience. Philanthropic organizations worldwide have mobilized to address urgent needs, but fragmented efforts and overlapping initiatives often limit their collective impact. Without adequate support, their ability to operate and respond effectively to ongoing challenges will weaken, with direct consequences for millions of Ukrainians.
 

F4U’s primary goal is to create a cohesive platform for strategic collaboration among foundations, grantmakers, and other philanthropic actors. The main objectives include:

1. Enhanced Effectiveness: By aligning philanthropic efforts, F4U reduces duplication, identifies and addresses funding gaps, and ensures that resources are allocated where they are most needed.
2. Stronger Civil Society: Sustained and strategic support will support Ukrainian civil society to respond effectively to current challenges while laying the foundation for rebuilding and fostering social cohesion for the future.
3. Increased Global Advocacy: By amplifying the voice of Ukraine’s civil society on the international stage, F4U ensures continued awareness and commitment from the global community to Ukraine’s evolving needs.

F4U operates as a dynamic and inclusive space for knowledge sharing, strategic alignment, and joint advocacy. Members collaborate to identify key priorities, avoid duplication of efforts, and build on shared insights and good practices. The network also supports collective learning, enabling members to take thoughtful risks and explore innovative approaches to philanthropy.

Rather than serving as a fundraising platform, F4U focuses on fostering meaningful partnerships and creating opportunities for members to co-create impactful strategies. Ukrainian civil society organizations are integral to this process, ensuring that local perspectives guide the network’s initiatives.
