An Assessment of Food Systems in Nationally Determined Contributions

Food production, processing, distribution, consumption, and waste account for nearly a third of total global greenhouse gas emissions. However, food systems are startlingly absent from most countries’ official climate plans. The Global Alliance for the Future of Food has assessed how 14 countries – including Germany, Senegal, the UK, the US and China – have incorporated food systems in their Nationally Determined contributions (NDCs).
