Empower refugee moms

Refugee mothers in Germany are an increasingly large and diverse group facing particular challenges. They are often highly motivated to work, but are disadvantaged by language, education and health barriers, as well as by issues related to reconciling work and family life. Refugee women are at risk of multiple discrimination due to the specific intersectionality of different identity categories. Due to their gender and their (displaced) refugee status, they are exposed to security and protection risks and are affected by gender-based violence. The aim of the project is to help these women to integrate themselves and their families into German society and to gain access to education, work and social networks.

The overall aim of the projects is to enable refugee mothers to participate actively in society, to strengthen their resilience and to support them on their way to a self-determined life in Germany. The collaboration between migrant civil society organisations and educational institutions will create sustainable cooperation structures that can serve as a blueprint for other regions and target groups. At the same time, the funded projects are designed to strengthen the work of the participating organisations by providing them with both resources and recognition for the essential role they play.

It is aimed at migrant civil society organisations and formal education institutions that wish to intensify their local networking and work with refugee mothers. These synergies will be used to jointly contribute to the further development of schools and education systems. The projects take place in locations in Germany with special needs, such as high levels of immigration, and are supported by the cooperation of the Robert Bosch Stiftung's thematic teams on immigration and education.
