In recent years, municipalities and civil society initiatives across Europe have joined forces to advocate for migration policies that focus on the rights of refugees and migrants. However, towns and cities often lack the political autonomy and the necessary resources to push through, and implement, their political demands and proposed solutions. “Moving Cities” project aims to strengthen municipalities’ political role and scope for action when it comes to refugees and migration. To this end, the eponymous online platform shows a clear map of 28 European municipalities that actively support solidarity-based migration policy. In addition, the platform also showcases particularly innovative local approaches that promote the societal participation and inclusion of refugees and migrants in an attempt to bring new approaches to solving the issues at hand to other towns and cities.
