Stuttgart/Berlin, June 13, 2024 – Fifteen schools from across Germany have made it to the final round of the 2024 German School Award. A 50-member jury from education studies, teaching practice and education administration selected the schools for the final round of the prestigious competition. The schools come from Berlin (2), Hamburg (1), Hesse (2), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (1), North Rhine-Westphalia (4), Lower Saxony (2), Saxony (1), Schleswig-Holstein (1) and Thuringia (1).
Through the German School Award, the Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH and the Heidehof Stiftung GmbH, in cooperation with German broadcaster ARD and ZEIT Publishing Group, honor Germany’s best schools each year.
The Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH and the Heidehof Stiftung have given the German School Award since 2006. It is the most prestigious, stringent and highly endowed award for good schools in Germany. Cooperation partners are ARD and ZEIT Publishing Group.
The nominated schools and a delegation of students and teachers will take part in the award ceremony with Chancellor Olaf Scholz on October 2, 2024, in Berlin, where the winners of the coveted prizes will be announced. The top prize is valued at 100,000 euros and the five other prizes at 30,000 euros each. All nominated schools that do not receive an award will be recognized with a prize of 5,000 euros.
All those nominated have undergone a rigorous application process over the last few months. The jury experts initially selected 20 schools from more than 80 applications. Teams of juries visited and evaluated these schools between April and June, nominating 15 for the final round of the German School Award.

About the German School Award
Since the program began, around 2,500 schools have applied for the award. In selecting the winners, the jury evaluates six quality areas. The focus is on "teaching quality" and the question of how schools can best organize teaching and learning for their students. The five other quality areas are "performance", "dealing with diversity", "responsibility", "school climate, school life and extracurricular partners" and "school as a learning institution".
The concepts of the award-winning schools are evaluated, prepared for publication and made available to all schools via training courses, publications and online on the German School Portal. This helps to broadly reinforce and advance good school practices.
