Working Together for a Just and Sustainable Future
We are committed to equality of opportunity in education and to a healthcare system that places people at its center. We seek answers to key questions for a just and sustainable future – from addressing climate change and ensuring a fair coexistence in our democracy to making migration more humane and local peacebuilding efforts more effective.
Our approach: Creating partnerships and networks
We are convinced that the best solutions only come about when people work together. That is why we maintain nearly 400 partnerships with knowledgeable and committed minds from civil society, politics, science, business and the arts to change structures and systems for the better.
Robert Bosch
Visionary, Entrepreneur and Founder
Robert Bosch laid the foundation for our work with his distinctive understanding of entrepreneurship, philanthropy and political engagement. In his legacy, he formulated the dual mandate of securing the continued existence of the Bosch company and advancing his social commitment. This vision continues to shape the relationship between the company and the Foundation to this day.
What began with Robert Bosch’s vision continues to unite us today:
the commitment to combine progress with responsibility.
About Us
Some 170 employees work to advance our mission at our main locations in Stuttgart and Berlin.
The Foundation’s governing bodies are the shareholders’ meeting, the Board of Trustees and the Board of Management. The Board of Trustees decides on the Foundation’s philanthropic activities and the allocation of funds. Its members are also the shareholders of the Foundation. In accordance with Robert Bosch’s wishes, the body includes members of the Bosch family, business leaders and distinguished public figures.
“We invest in people and forward-looking ideas. In this way, we shape effective solutions for societal challenges and continue the legacy and mission of Robert Bosch.”
Our Funding Areas
Together with our partners, we focus on healthcare, education and global issues. We pursue this work through our own institutions, by supporting partner-led projects and by developing funding programs in Germany, Europe, Ukraine, West Africa, and West Asia.
Health
We are committed to a resilient healthcare system that places people at its center.
We promote sustainable, patient-centered healthcare by bringing together treatment, research, education, and funding at the Bosch Health Campus.
Education
We are committed to equal opportunities in education so that every child has the chance to discover and develop their strengths.
We are committed to fostering resilient and adaptable preschools and schools across Germany. We develop innovative solutions and widely share this knowledge.
Global Issues
We empower people not only to cope with global crises, but also to help shape the future.
We believe in the ability of people, organizations, and societies to shape the future, even under difficult conditions. We support them in developing and implementing strategies to solve global issues.
Other Funding
In Ukraine, we are strengthening civil society and support it – in rebuilding the country – and in its resilience.
We empower civil society actors in Ukraine to help shape the country’s future.
Future-oriented and Impactful Action
The world is undergoing profound change. To remain effective in this complex environment and focus our efforts where they can have the most impact, our team responsible for foresight, impact and strategy continuously analyzes global challenges and their emerging development.
Political Liasion Work
Political leaders also have to make decisions in an increasingly complex and volatile environment. At the same time, their decisions have a significant impact on social and systemic change. The Foundation aims to support them by fostering innovative policy solutions and creating opportunities for open exchange between policymakers and international experts from a wide range of disciplines.
Our Institutions
We have created places where the future
is being shaped.
Bosch Health Campus
At the Bosch Health Campus (BHC) in Stuttgart, we work to ensure that new therapies reach patients more quickly. The BHC brings together the Robert Bosch Hospital, several research institutes, an educational center and the Robert Bosch Center for Innovative Health.
The campus employs over 3,000 people who focus on four core areas: treatment, research, education and funding. The close integration of cutting-edge medicine and research enables the provision of interdisciplinary treatment of the highest quality, even for complex medical conditions. The latest scientific findings are incorporated directly into patient care and shape education and professional training at the Irmgard Bosch Education Center on the campus.
The funding pillar makes the campus a living laboratory for healthcare innovation. As an independent unit, the Robert Bosch Center for Innovative Health develops ideas for improving healthcare and supports pioneering projects led by external partners. As a result, the campus’s impact extends far beyond the healthcare sector in Baden-Württemberg.
Robert Bosch Academy
The Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin provides a space for interdisciplinary debates on political, economic and social issues of global relevance.
The Academy has since 2014 welcomed distinguished policymakers and thought leaders from around the world for extended residencies at the Foundation’s Berlin office. As Fellows, they exchange ideas and collaborate across fields to explore pressing issues – from the links between climate change and armed conflict to the future of education and health policy, and current geopolitical challenges.
Through expert discussions and other public events, Fellows contribute to public debates in Berlin while also gaining a deeper understanding of Germany through study visits. Structured community activities help to build a diverse and international network that endures long after the Fellows leave Berlin. Since its founding, the academy has welcomed over a hundred Fellows from around 50 countries, bringing the world a little closer to Berlin.
Robert Bosch College UWC
At the Robert Bosch College in Freiburg, young people from all over the world and from different social backgrounds live and learn together.
As Germany’s only United World College (UWC), it places a particular emphasis on sustainability and on the role that technology can play in supporting ecological development.
This international boarding school is home to 200 students, aged 16 to 19, from as many as one hundred countries. They live together in residential communities for two years, experiencing firsthand that peaceful coexistence is possible despite differing opinions and political conflicts. Students are selected solely on the basis of merit and potential by independent national committees, while scholarships ensure that financial circumstances do not determine access.
In addition to its rigorous academic curriculum, the college aims to nurture tolerant and responsible young people who aspire to make a positive difference in the world and contribute to a sustainable future. Opened in 2014 to mark the Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the college is one of the Foundation’s largest individual projects. It was established in partnership with Robert Bosch GmbH, the German UWC Foundation, and the State of Baden-Württemberg. Since then, around 900 students from more than 130 countries have earned their International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma there.
International Alumni Center
The iac in Berlin supports organizations in building effective networks and promoting collaborative solutions to social issues.
The Robert Bosch Stiftung founded this center of expertise to enable foundations and other nonprofit organizations to share knowledge, methods and learning opportunities that enable collaborative approaches to complex challenges.
A key focus of its work is coordinating major networks. The iac manages the Bosch Alumni Network, which brings together former grantees and
Foundation staff to work toward a world that is more just. It also supports Foundations for Ukraine (F4U), a global alliance of philanthropic organizations dedicated to supporting Ukraine. In addition, the iac serves as the European strategic partner and implementing organization for the Democracy & Belonging Forum, a program of the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley.
