Social cohesion: Between Adaptation and Multiculturalism
Background to the Policy Paper
Since 2019, More in Common has regularly studied the dynamics of German society with the aim of countering division and strengthening social cohesion. Migration has been a central theme from the beginning. At a time when migration debates are highly visible and often heated, we aim to contribute to a more constructive public conversation – one that respects nuance and diverse perspectives.
To this end, we conducted new research in 2025, surveying 2,021 people in Germany through a quantitative, sociodemographically representative online panel. The survey was carried out between 11 and 20 April in collaboration with More in Common UK, using the German panel of market research firm Dynata LLC. The findings presented in this paper are primarily based on this research, supplemented by insights from additional quantitative and qualitative studies.
