The Protection and Promotion of Civic Space

Civil society space is recognised as a cornerstone of a functioning democracy. In the long run, it can help improve the effectiveness and responsiveness of government, promote more citizen-centred policies and strengthen social cohesion. This first comparative OECD report on civic space provides a data base of 33 OECD members and 19 non-members, and a differentiated overview of the different dimensions of civic space.
