These schools are doing well

Teacher shortages, learning deficits, sluggish digitalization - there are plenty of construction sites in the German school system. Despite the difficult conditions, many schools provide excellent education. 20 of these schools from all over Germany are now hoping to win the German School Award 2024. They were selected by an expert jury from more than 80 applicants and have made it to the second round of the competition. 

Over the coming weeks, teams of judges will assess the top 20 schools. The jury of around 50 people consists of educational scientists and experts from school practice and education administration. They conduct interviews with teachers, pupils, parents and extracurricular partners and visit teaching units and projects. Once the school visits are complete, the selection committee will nominate up to 15 schools for the German School Award 2024 at the end of June.

The shortlisted schools will be invited to an award ceremony with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz on October 2, 2024 in Berlin, where the coveted prizes will finally be awarded. The main award is endowed with 100,000 euros, the five other prizes with 30,000 euros each. All of the nominated schools who miss out on the main prizes will still receive a 5,000 euro recognition award.
