German School Barometer Students
In the 2025/2026 edition of the “German School Barometer Students,” the Robert Bosch Stiftung surveys children, adolescents, and one parent each about their quality of life, well-being at school, the quality of instruction, and opportunities for participation in school and the classroom. The study also takes an in-depth look at bullying. The findings of the representative study paint a clear picture: One in four children in Germany shows signs of psychological distress, with children from low-income families particularly affected. In addition, the vast majority of students would like to have more influence on how lessons are shaped, but so far feel only marginally heard. Another key finding: One-third of adolescents experience bullying by classmates on a regular basis.
The study was developed in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Julian Schmitz of the University of Leipzig and in close collaboration with an interdisciplinary research team.
