About the project

In the SPORT VERNETZT All-day school project, various stakeholders are working together to develop a social-space-oriented sport and exercise concept for all-day schools, in which physical education, all-day care and (extracurricular) activities are interlinked. The overall aim is to improve educational opportunities, strengthen well-being and enable participation.
In a first phase, nine project schools are working with Alba Berlin and Leuphana University Lüneburg to develop examples of all-day schools that are beginning to implement a holistic approach to sport and physical activity. The results will be summarised in a concept that will inspire as many schools as possible to rethink and redesign sport and all-day schools against the background of the legal entitlement to all-day schooling for primary school children (2026).
In a second phase, the developed concept of a social space-oriented sport and movement idea for all-day schools is to be widely disseminated. It is to be communicated to other schools as well as to educational policy actors with the aim of structural development in the school and all-day school sector.

Why are we running this project?

Young people spend more time at school than they did a few decades ago. This trend will continue with the legal entitlement to all-day childcare, while the time windows for individual leisure activities are shrinking for all children and young people. In order to comprehensively support the development of children and young people, schools and social spaces should be further interlinked.

What is our goal?

If the school itself becomes a place of movement, the well-being of the adolescents can be strengthened, social participation promoted and educational opportunities improved. A social space-orientated sports and exercise concept for all-day schools aims to develop a holistic perspective in which different offers are interlinked and implemented by multi-professional teams.
