German School Barometer Survey of Teachers 2025

Bücher und Studien
Deutsches Schulbarometer Lehrkräfte 2025

The German School Barometer is a representative longitudinal panel study conducted by the Robert Bosch Foundation that sheds light on the current situation of teachers. In June 2025, Germany's teachers are skeptical about the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the classroom: Most expect predominantly negative effects on their students, while at the same time recognizing the potential for personalized learning. For a growing number of teachers, student behavior is the biggest challenge in everyday school life. Nevertheless, the majority of teachers are satisfied with their profession. For the first time this year, the German School Barometer also examines how teachers assess democracy education in their schools. The result: more than half believe that significantly more needs to be done in this area.

German Schoolbarometer teacher survey 2024

Programm- und Projektbroschüren
Deutsches Schulbarometer Befragung Lehrkräfte 2024

The German School Barometer is a representative longitudinal panel study that sheds light on the current situation of teachers. In the survey from November 2023, almost every second teacher reported problems with psychological or physical violence among pupils at their own school. The survey also shows that violence at their own school significantly increases the risk of burnout and stress among teachers. More than a third feel emotionally exhausted several times a week, with younger and female teachers and primary school teachers being particularly affected. Although the vast majority of teachers are satisfied with their job, more than a quarter would leave the teaching profession if they had the opportunity to do so. (Report in German langauge).

Das Deutsche Schulbarometer

Since 2019, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has regularly commissioned representative surveys on the current situation of schools in Germany, which are published under the name "German School Barometer". This publication summarizes the key findings of a survey of teachers at general and vocational schools in Germany, which was conducted between 13 and 23 June 2023. Teachers report behavioral problems among pupils and an increase in child poverty. They also see a need for improvement in the implementation of an inclusive education system and the expansion of (digital) infrastructure. The majority of part-time teachers are also willing to increase their working hours under certain conditions.
